SEARCH TERM MELROSE PARK, IL -- In late April, Stern Pinball Inc. introduced a second premium Metallica pinball machine, following the initial release of the line a few weeks earlier. The new model features original artwork by Dirty Donny Gilles, the freelance artist famous for his works in punk rock and heavy metal circles.

Gilles' contribution is the rendering of monsters on the translite of the machine's backbox. The new model, the fourth in the Metallica series, possesses the same action-packed features in the Road Case Premium, Master of Puppets Limited Edition, which has sold out, and Pro games. The Dirty Donny version is $6,995.

The initial release of Metallica captured the attention of gamers and fans alike, Stern said. All 500 Master of Puppets games were sold within the first hour of their availability. And news of the Metallica game reportedly crashed Stern's website, as a traffic surge of pinball and Metallica devotees knocked the server offline.

"Stern Pinball has pulled out all the stops for the Metallica machines," Gilles said. "Creating artwork for this special release game has been awesome. I can't wait to see people's reactions when they take a first look at it and get to play the game."

Gillies, 39, was born in Ottawa, Canada, and lives in San Francisco. He has designed album covers, show posters and band merchandise, and has dabbled in the hotrod, skateboard and toy industries. He has produced work for such bands as The Hellacopters, The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, The Wildhearts, Electric Frankenstein and The's, but his association with Metallica is best known.

Stern Pinball was named the American Amusement Machine Association's Manufacturer of the Year for 2012. It will be showcasing Metallica pinball machines with Nuclear Blast Records at Comic-Con International in San Diego, July 18-21.
