VENICE BEACH, CA -- The company behind the Snapchat smartphone app has released sunglasses with a built-in wireless video camera. Snap Inc.'s glasses are only available through bright yellow vending machines popping up for limited times in surprise locations. The first Snapbot appeared in Venice Beach, CA, on Nov. 10, followed by a machine in Loma Vista, CA, at the Big Sur Bakery.

Called Spectacles and priced at $130, the sunglasses can record as much as 10 seconds of video shot with two 115°-angle lenses, which can be uploaded wirelessly to the user's Snapchat app on their phone. The frame also has built-in lights to let others know that when the Spectacles user is recording. The image is circular.

Snap Inc. said that an online map would reveal future locations of vending machines, which will remain at each site for only about a day. So far, the locations have been shared just 24 hours in advance.

Long lines have quickly formed in front of the initial Snapbot machines. The glasses have quickly sold out, and reappeared on sites such as eBay, fetching as much as $1,000.
