CHICAGO -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association has appointed Sheree Edwards as regional legislative director.

Edwards will oversee and aid the state lobbying programs, legislative efforts and education activities of NAMA's state councils. She will also collaborate with those who represent NAMA's interests before state and local governments and help to ensure that the vending association's members are up to date on key legislative issues and developments.

Previously, Edwards worked at the Asian American Hotel Owners Association as managing attorney of government affairs. She has also held posts at several law firms and at the Detroit City Council as public policy analyst.

NAMA executive vice-president and chief operating officer Dan Mathews said Edwards's appointment comes at a critical time, when the industry is facing numerous legislative hurdles including unfair tax hikes at the local, state and federal levels, new coin and currency regulations, nutritional and labeling requirements and healthcare mandates, along with revised regulations associated with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

"NAMA made a conscious decision to broaden our government affairs department to ensure we are doing our part to identify and monitor emerging issues on the local, state and federal level and address them before they become a threat to our members, rather than trying to fight them once they have been passed," Mathews said.
