BOULDER, CO -- ShelfX's Vending Fridge is officially rolling off the production line. The unique take on automatic retailing won the National Automatic Merchandising Association's Innovation Award two years in a row.

Royal Vendors (Kearneysville, WV) is manufacturing the Vending Fridge, a novel merchandising system features a "smart shelf" equipped with sensitive scales that know the exact quantity and identity of products stocked on it. The machine also "knows" what customers remove or return to the shelf, and adjusts accordingly before processing the payment. Through wireless communication, the machine updates a customer's account and bills automatically.

New Vending Fridge customers begin by downloading the ShelfX app onto their mobile phones to create an account. They then point their phones at the Vending Fridge to scan a QR code that unlocks the door of the refrigerated merchandiser, allowing access to foods and beverages inside. Customers can also use an NFC-enabled XCard, which functions the same as the app, or swipe a credit card.

ShelfX is targeting Vending Fridge placement at hotels, retail stores, gyms, schools and libraries in need of flexible food vending solutions. It can merchandise a wide range of items from sandwiches and salads to fresh fruits.
