DESTIN, FL  -- The Southeastern Vending Association will hold its 2008 convention at the Sandestin Resort here from August 6 through 8, and a lively mix of business and recreational programming is in preparation.

SEVA is an organization of five state councils of the National Automatic Merchandising Association cooperating to stage an annual multi-state conference. This year's event, the third under the SEVA aegis, will lead off with the eagerly awaited Wilbur Langston Memorial Golf Tournament on Wednesday, August 6. This is taking place at the Baytowne Golf Club; its usual venue, the Raven Golf Club, will be closed temporarily for grounds maintenance during this year's confab. The tournament features a four-player scramble format with shotgun start at 8 a.m.; there will be prizes for top teams and individuals. Registration is $135 per golfer, including cart, greens fees and prizes.

SEVA And AMAF Offer Chance To Win Supervisor Development Scholarships

MARIETTA, GA -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association is offering its acclaimed Supervisor Development Program in conjunction with this year's Southeast Vending Association convention in Destin, FL. It will be conducted from Monday, August 4, through Wednesday, August 6, when the SEVA meet opens.

To encourage the fullest participation in this educational opportunity, SEVA offered the members of its five constituent state councils the opportunity to win free scholarships for the program. These have a value of $1,250 each, and the winners were drawn by lot.

The Automatic Merchandising Association of Florida and SEVA have just announced the availability of another free scholarship. The opportunity is offered to any operator member of AMAF and NAMA whose 2008 dues are up to date. Each eligible company may submit multiple names, completing a separate entry for each. Again, the winner will be chosen by a random drawing.

Deadline for submitting nominations is Wednesday, July 16, 2008, and the drawing will be held on the 18th.

Scholarships for the Supervisor Development Program cover the program fees; winners are responsible for food and lodging, as well as SEVA registration if they plan to attend the conference, too.

Information may be obtained from NAMA education manager Melissa Zuro by calling (312) 346-0370 ext. 253, or emailing her at

On Wednesday evening, early-arriving conference-goers and relaxed golfers can avail themselves of a Southern barbecue party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; a concurrent Children's Night Out - dinner, sand-dollar painting, limbo and musical chairs - will provide an agreeable alterative for younger participants.

Thursdays' program will get under way at 7 a.m. with a continental breakfast. The formal welcome and initial announcements are set for 8:15 a.m., and the keynote address will be delivered from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The keynoter is Wayne Cook, a celebrated motivational speaker who will discuss "Inspiration through Action." His appearance at the SEVA meet is sponsored by Kraft Foods.

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., convention-goers can take part in a detailed discussion with industry leaders. A concurrent spouse event invites participants to paint their own pottery. A buffet lunch will punctuate the day's round of activities, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The five sponsoring state associations will hold their individual annual meetings immediately thereafter. They are the Alabama Vending Association (AVA), Mississippi Automatic Merchandising Association (MAMA) and Vending Machine Operators of Louisiana (VMOL), the three constituents of the former Vending Machine Associations of the Gulf Shore (VMAGS), as well as the Georgia Automatic Merchandising Council (GAMC) and the Tennessee Automatic Merchandising Association (TAMA), which joined the Gulf councils to create SEVA. The state meetings are expected to conclude at 1:30 p.m., leaving conference-goers free to enjoy the varied pleasures of the resort and its environs.

A Sponsor Appreciation Reception is slated for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will be followed by the gala Sponsor Night. The younger set may find greater diversion at the concurrent Children's Night Out, this time featuring dinner, "fuse art," cookie decorating and flashlight tag on the beach.

On Friday, August 8, last-day announcements will be made, and the Golf Tournament awards presented, from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This will be followed by a panel discussion, featuring the senior management of the National Automatic Merchandising Association.

From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., conference-goers will be entertained by comedian and playwright Tim Clue, one of the most popular corporate acts in the country, who will address "Not Just Snickers - Big Laughs." A Friday afternoon highlight will be the Beach Volleyball Tournament at 2 p.m.

The 2008 SEVA convention will conclude on a high note with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6 p.m. and the Closing Night Event from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Again, a Children's Night Out will offer an alternative, featuring dinner, necklace-making, activities in the Village Playground, games and a movie.
