MOSCOW, Russia -- The Russian National Vending Association reports that statistics on the steady expansion of the market for vending and other self-service equipment provides a strong incentive for participation in the 2020 staging of VendExpo and WRS5 (the World Retail Smart Solutions and Self-Service exhibition). The shows are scheduled for March 25 through 27, 2020 at the Moscow Expocenter.

According to the association, Russia presently is in fifth place among European countries in terms of the number of vending machines on location, surpassed only by Italy, Germany and Spain.

The vending market in Russia is growing, the association said, and this growth is getting stronger every year. In 2018 (the last year for which complete data is available), annual vending machine revenue in Russia amounted to 52.9 billion rubles, 3.5% higher than previous year’s total.

16,800 new vending machines were sold in 2018, 20% more than in 2017; the total number of vending machines in Russia today is 178 ,000. According to realistic forecasts, that number will reach 205,000 by 2020, RNVA predicts.

In Russia, vending machines sell 3.2 million products per day, of which 63% are hot drinks, 19% soft drinks, 16% snacks and 2% other products. Between 8,000 and 10,000 people are employed in the vending business in Russia, and about 70% of the machines are located in workplaces.

Despite this robust growth, vending machine penetration in Russia remains low: one machine for around 815 people, compared with the European average of 190 people per machine. This provides substantial opportunity for market growth.

RNVA added that, among events illustrating the tendencies it has observed, the Moscow Metro has strengthened its convenience services by installing new coffee and snack vending machines, and is continuing to do so. In the industry overall, the use of contactless payment systems and telemetry is growing. In the service vending category, automated bicycle and scooter rental agencies continue to expand.

“According to the data obtained, it becomes clear that the industry is developing more and more actively every year,” the association summed up.

The manufacturers and suppliers fueling that expansion will show their wares at next year’s VendExpo, the 14th in a series that began in 2007, and its companion World Retail Smart Solutions and Self-Service Systems Exhibition, which will mark its fifth year in 2020. VendExpo is a showcase for international vending technologies, equipment and automated services; it is listed among the top specialized commercial events in Russia, Commonwealth of Independent States and Eastern Europe. Every year, leading Russian and foreign purveyors represent a wide variety of vending equipment, spare parts and ingredients as well as the newest technologies and support services. Innovative start-up enterprises and technologies can be also found at the exhibition.

The WRS5 World Retail Smart Solutions and Self-service Systems Exhibition took place for the first time within the framework of VendExpo 2016. At WRS5, companies display and demonstrate solutions for self-service car washes, laundries, automated luggage storage and self-service kiosks for fast-food chains, as well as enabling technologies like NFC contactless systems.

The two shows are organized by EMTG (Exhibition Management Technology Group), which specializes in B2B exhibitions, consulting and publishing services. Since 2002, its professional team has organized and conducted 30 international exhibitions and 37 business conferences in Moscow and other cities including Krasnodar, Perm and Lipetsk. Its membership includes more than 40 companies whose business activities range from machine manufacturing and operation to\ production and distribution of ingredients and commodities.
