WASHINGTON -- President Obama announced the creation of a trade-enforcement unit during his Jan. 24 State of the Union speech. Depending on the scope of its responsibilities, the new government agency could impact the bulk vending and crane machine supply chains. Although he did not go into specifics, the President made it clear that the new government entity would be charged with taking a close look at all imports.

"Tonight, I'm announcing the creation of a Trade Enforcement Unit that will be charged with investigating unfair trading practices in countries like China," the President said during the hour-plus long speech. "There will be more inspections to prevent counterfeit or unsafe goods from crossing our borders. And this Congress should make sure that no foreign company has an advantage over American manufacturing when it comes to accessing financing or new markets like Russia."

It's not surprising that the President singled out China, a nation that has become a bipartisan target in recent years. Since taking office, his administration has filed five World Trade Organization complaints against China and imposed duties on Chinese-made tires while Republicans continue to seek sanctions against the country as a currency manipulator.
