Photo-Me Acquires Sempa To Add Fresh Juice Vending To Portfolio

EPSOM, Surrey, England — Photo-Me International reports that it has acquired 96% of the issued share capital of Sempa s.a.r.l. for $23.04 million. Sempa, based in Grenoble, France, specializes in commercial self-service fresh fruit juice equipment. The acquisition is funded by a new debt facility.

Sempa chief executive Pascal Faucher will remain with the acquired business to drive the growth of the new Photo-Me segment.

Photo-Me is a pioneer in the development and deployment of photobooths, at present primarily used for identification imaging. The company has diversified by adding other instant-service vending equipment, including digital printing kiosks and unattended laundries.

The Sempa acquisition is in line with Photo-Me’s strategy of diversifying its vending operations. The company plans to develop a new segment alongside its identification, laundry and kiosk businesses.

Photo-Me reports that Sempa is France’s leader in commercializing self-service fresh fruit juice equipment. The business has used a lease model under which Sempa sells equipment to customers through lease finance agreements. Sempa receives full payment upon sale of the equipment, and the lease finance contracts are then subject to renewal every 12 months, on average. Sempa’s customers include retail, offices and workspaces, and small businesses.

Photo-Me explained that it plans to leverage its innovation expertise and Sempa’s industry experience to further develop self-service fresh fruit juice equipment.

“Photo-Me intends to become the global leader in self-service fresh fruit juice machines,” the company stated. Through this acquisition, it plans to pursue a strategy building on the success Sempa has already enjoyed in France, initially by rolling out the machines across its European network.

Photo-Me plans to benefit further from the cross-sale of its instant-service offering by introducing photobooths, laundry units and kiosks to the retail sites where Sempa already has established a footprint. The new business will be supported by the Photo-Me organization’s existing network of regional field engineers, as well as its sales team, at a low incremental cost.
