OCS Industry Leader Ken Shea Is NAMA's 2017 Coffee Legend

CHICAGO -- The National Automatic Merchandising Association has announced that Ken Shea, G&J Sales & Marketing and Ken Shea & Associates is this year's NAMA Coffee Legend. The 2017 NAMA Coffee Legend Award will be presented during the opening session of the annual Coffee, Tea & Water convention on Monday, Nov. 6, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, TX.

Shea has worked in the coffee service industry for some four decades. "Ken has made a major impact working in every facet of convenience services, as a distributor, manufacturer, operator, broker and a consultant," said Stu Case, Avanti Markets (Reno, NV), who chairs NAMA's Coffee Service Committee. "For his leadership, his passion for advancing coffee services and his commitment to helping his industry colleagues, we are delighted to honor Ken as this year's Coffee Legend."

Shea served as president of Flowers Distributing and chief operating officer of Servatron in the 1980s. He then made the transition to the operating side of the business, serving as vice-president of operations for Standard Coffee Service (New Orleans) in the '90s. After 10 years, he made another transition, serving as president of Newco Enterprises (St. Charles, MO) for two years. These varied experiences prepared him to establish Ken Shea & Associates, a consulting and master brokerage business.

Shea returned to Standard Coffee Service as vice-president of field operations for seven years, including three as vice-president of coffee development for DS Services (Atlanta) after it acquired Standard. During this period, he also served two terms on the NAMA board of directors.

He reestablished his consulting business in 2014 and currently works with G&J Marketing and Sales as vice-president of coffee service. He penned a coffee service column for Ben Ginsberg's Vending & OCS magazine for many years, and is now a columnist for Coffee Talk.

Among his many industry honors, Shea was named the 1988 Southern Coffee Break Association's Supplier of the Year and NAMA's 2012 Coffee Service Operator of the Year. He was inducted into the NAMA Coffee Service Hall of Fame at CTW 2016.
