SAN DIEGO, CA -- Novatel Wireless has introduced a USB modem -- the MiFi U620L 4G LTE -- for Verizon Wireless. It's based on Novatel's proven MiFi 6600 family mobile hotspot technology, and takes advantage of Verizon's latest LTE Advanced Network capabilities.

According to Novatel, the U620L is designed to support the most demanding "Internet of Things" (IoT) bandwidth requirements while providing basic 4G LTE connectivity in versatile USB stick format. It thus offers "future-proof" connectivity for all foreseeable applications and use cases.

The new "plug and play" wireless modem is a compact device measuring 3.2x1.3x0.44 ins., about two-thirds the footprint of a business card. It does not require drivers, Novatel explained, which makes it ideal for use in the connected world of vending machines, point-of-sale kiosks, digital signage, industrial automation and other IoT applications. The U620L also supports Verizon's Remote Device Configuration tool for remote-management capabilities, including advanced "AT" commands designed for IoT applications, over-the-air configuration, diagnostics and firmware updates.

The Novatel U620L supports not only 4G LTE connections in the U.S., but also global data in more than 200 countries. The manufacturer reports that, wherever the IoT installation or enterprise users may be, the device will provide the fastest connections available, with full 3G backward compatibility.

Powered by proprietary technology from the Novatel Wireless MiFi platform, the secure MiFi U620L USB modem is engineered to deliver an unsurpassed user experience for consumers, enterprises, government agencies, and applications for the Internet of Things. Additional features unique to the platform include low power draw, industrial-grade reliability and advanced security features including VPN support.

The U620L hardware offers a USB connector that folds away, rotates and swivels to accommodate various USB port orientations. it includes two LED indicators that communicate modem status and data used. Additional features include S-GPS support for location-based services and a desktop dashboard application that can provide additional device information and status for Windows or Mac operating systems.

Novatel Wireless executive vice-president of sales and marketing John Carney hailed the introduction as bringing the convenience of USB connectivity to the entire "Internet of Things" world.

"By packing in key features of the MiFi technology platform, the robust MiFi U620L is attractive not only for the consumer looking for reliable, fast connectivity, but also for an enterprise in need of a simple, plug-and-play solution that can monitor and collect data from a remote machine," he said.
