2004 JUKEBOX LICENSE FEES TO RISE 2.04%

NASHVILLE, TN -- Jukebox license fees will increase 2.04 percent in 2004, according to Mike Vaughn of the Jukebox License Office, the agency that administers the Jukebox License Agreement for ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. The increase is based on an adjustment of the Consumer Price Index, Vaughn reported. The 2004 license fees will consist of $371 for the first jukebox, compared with $364 in 2003, and a standard rate of $85 for the second jukebox and beyond, up from $83 in 2003. Jukebox operators who are members of the Amusement and Music Operators Association (http://www.amoa.com) are entitled to a lower standard rate of $62 for the second licensed jukebox and beyond, compared with $61 in 2003. The exclusive AMOA rate is part of the latest agreement, which went into effect in January 2001, between the AMOA and the three performing rights organizations. The agreement provides jukebox operators with total access to all copyrighted songs in the ASCAP, BMI and SESAC repertories. The JLO will mail renewal materials with its new rate schedule in January to all jukebox operators who licensed their equipment in 2003. Next year's renewal deadline for all jukeboxes in operation is March 15.The JLO maintains a website at http://www.jukeboxlicense.com/.
