INDIANAPOLIS -- The National Dart Association is changing to prepaid fees for tournament registrants, in place of onsite charges, beginning with this fall's regional tournament series. NDA, an activity of the Amusement and Music Operators Association, reported that many state and regional tournaments already use this method, which players prefer because it permits them to budget more easily by minimizing out-of-pocket costs. It also speeds up play.

The prepaid fees will be collected per entry certificate, making it easier for the operator to track. Singles certificates will include a $10 fee, doubles a $20 fee, triples a $15 fee and team a $60 fee. This system will take effect with the upcoming regional tournaments in Denver from Sept. 19 through 21; Columbus, OH, from Oct. 24 through 26; and Rochester, MN, from Dec. 12 through 14.

"'Green fees' have been asked for by the players for several years", said NDA vice-president Alvin Gerlach, Hub Music & Vending Co. (Aberdeen, SD). "I believe the tournaments will run faster as players will not be standing in line to get quarters, and they will not be taking time to plug the boards."

The association explained that these layer-friendly changes and the impending fall tournament schedule mean that there is no better time than right now to become involved in the NDA. And next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the Team Dart tournament, which is set for May 1 through 9 in Las Vegas.

The association's tournaments provide a competitive experience in which players encounter others of similar ability, owing to their classification by skill rating. "From beginner to master players, everyone has a level and a chance to win," the organization explained. "NDA tournaments are fun and affordable, and award more winners than any other soft-tip dart tournaments."

Any sanctioned player meeting the eligibility requirements may compete in NDA tournaments. And the organization's CompuSport online bracketing technology, which made its debut two years ago, speeds up play and makes tournaments more interactive for players, as well as for enthusiasts wishing to follow along at home.
