MISSISSAUGA, ON, Canada -- Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Ltd. is piloting a prototype brewing system for its RealCup single-cup packs. The Canadian roaster said it partnered with beverage equipment manufacturer Grindmaster to develop a new machine for the office coffee and foodservice channels.

The RealCup brewer can use both a water reservoir and plumbed-in sources. It can brew volumes between 4 fl.oz. and 16 fl.oz.

Mother Parker's RealCup portion packs for use in the new brewer include Martinson, Brown Gold and Marley Coffee coffees and Higgins & Burke teas. They are also compatible for use in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters' Keurig K-Cup single-serve brewers.

"This new brewer represents a major innovation in single-serve cup brewers," said Rusty James, vice-president of foodservice sales for Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee. "New larger-size servings and pre-infusion technology clearly deliver the best cup of single-serve coffee on the market today."

Select Mother Parkers customers throughout North America will begin testing the RealCup brewer in November, with the official launch planned for February 2014.

The roaster said it is in the process of adding new technologies and enhancements to the RealCup brewer. It's also reportedly in discussions with brand partners for its RealCups and is developing new single-cup products that expand its menu beyond coffee and tea.
