MILWAUKEE, WI -- Gold Standard Games again supplied the air hockey tables for public play at the Midwest Gaming Classic, an event that draws thousands of game enthusiasts every year. The 2018 Gaming Classic was held at the Wisconsin Center here from Apr. 13 through Apr.15, providing a wide range of exhibits, activities and entertainment for fans of commercial and home video and electromechanical games.

Gold Standard's Mark Robbins reported that this year's festivities included a tournament that brought together the top players from all parts of the country. The competition highlighted the appeal of air hockey as a sport. Local air hockey enthusiasts were invited to participate in two "play-in" rounds on Friday and Saturday. The winners then competed in the main tournament on Saturday afternoon, and the two top contestants faced off for the final round on Saturday evening. A special kids' tournament took place on Sunday.

The Midwest tournament winner was Brian Accrocco (Houston, TX), who currently is ranked fourth by the United States Air Hockey Association (USAA). Placing second was Joe Cain (San Ramon, CA). Mark Robbins (Chicago, IL) took third place, followed by Doug Howard (Amarillo, TX) in fourth.

The Midwest Gaming Classic offers more than 100,000 sq.ft. of retro and modern home videogame consoles, pinball machines, arcade videogames, computers, tabletop gaming, crane games, collectible card games and air hockey, in an environment enhanced by refreshments and music. The sponsors explained that the event is about celebrating gaming, trying new things,  meeting other gaming and retro technology enthusiasts – "and having fun doing it."

The event is organized by Milwaukee's GOAT Store LLC (GOAT is short for Games Of All Types), a leading supplier of new and used amusement products established late in the last century.
