SAN FRANCISCO -- Cantaloupe Systems said Midlantic Vending Services of Moorestown, NJ, is installing its wireless Seed devices in 1,000 vending machines in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington, DC.

Based on initial tests, Midlantic is expecting a 40% lift in sales per machine and greater efficiencies with Seed's automated routing and analytics features. The Seed devices will reportedly replace 300 existing USA Technologies cashless readers.

"Most of our machines are branded with the name of the products they carry, such as Good Humor, Red Bull, Turkey Hill, and Mars, to name a few," said Alan Drazen, vice-president of Midlantic.

"They are primarily located in high traffic areas, so a positive customer experience with robust cashflow is critical, which means we can't afford to be out of stock and we need to offer all the payment options customers want."

Cantaloupe Systems' Seed platform enables cashless purchases and supports mobile payment solutions. It also gathers data from machines wirelessly over the Internet, enabling optimized scheduling that delivers maximum route and merchandising efficiencies. By analyzing inventory levels, cash in the machine and geographic considerations, the Web-based application automatically generates efficient delivery schedules and pick lists based on real-time, item-level sales data.

Warehouse personnel use this information to preload orders for each machine, providing drivers with more time to focus on servicing their routes. The platform also provides vending operators tools to reconcile daily cash collection and capture spoilage and inventory variances. SeedSync, a customizable integration tool that is part of the Seed Platform, integrates all collected data with Cantaloupe's existing vending management software package.

Seed technology is currently installed in more than 70,000 vending machines in the U.S., according to Cantaloupe.
