WEST CHESTER, PA -- Two premium teas for the Flavia single-serve brewing system are being offered in brand-new recyclable Freshpacks by Mars Drinks North America. They are Earl Grey and English breakfast blends from Bright Tea Co.

Mars reports that its latest packaging innovation has enabled the removal of an aluminum foil layer from the two Freshpacks, and advance from three materials to a single, fully recyclable plastic composition.

The company hailed the new Freshpack design as a major development on Mars Drinks' "path to sustainability." Mars aims to make all Freshpacks 100% recyclable by 2015.

Recycling of the Freshpacks is supported by the Mars Drinks Recycling Program, partnering with TerraCycle. TerraCycle can collect and recycle the new Freshpacks using a process that yields a plastic material suitable for use in such products as office stationery and garden furniture.

"This is a big step for single-serve sustainability, and in reducing the impact of our products," said Kate Wylie, sustainability director for Mars Drinks. "We are committed to innovation and are always looking for new ways to enable us to become more sustainable, while supporting our customers in doing the same. This is a great achievement, and one that we will continue to build on in the future."

Flavia Freshpacks contain the exact amount of coffee, tea or chocolate to brew one cup of high-quality beverage with Flavia single-serve brewing systems, developed specifically for offices.

Mars Drinks sells Alterra and Roaster coffees, teas from Bright Tea Co. and Dove hot chocolate. Its Flavia system was developed more than a quarter of a century ago. Mars reports that it was the first company to introduce a single-serve drinks system to the office market.
