DENVER -- Marley Coffee has announced that its single-serve coffee partner and investor Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee (Mississauga, ON, Canada) will introduce a new version of the Marley Coffee RealCup capsule that will be compatible with the future Keurig Green Mountain 2.0 brewer, slated for introduction later this year. That compatibility technology then will be integrated into the EcoCup format for Marley Coffee, which incorporates a recyclable capsule that is accepted for collection by many curbside-recycling programs.

"The evolution of this technology makes us even more confident in our platform choice with Mother Parkers, and we believe their technology will be the next revolution in the category," said Marley Coffee founder and chairman Rohan Marley.

More than 10 billion single-serve capsules will be thrown into landfills next year, Marley said. "Our EcoCup, which is planned to launch in the first half of 2015, is expected to be one of the first true solutions to the sustainability issues seen with traditional capsules."

All Marley Coffee cups are either organic or Rain Forest Alliance certified, the company founder explained, and they soon will be recyclable, too.

Marley Coffee chief executive Brent Toevs observed that the new capsule is a game-changer. "Capsules that can be compatible with the 2.0 brewer will shift the single-serve industry paradigm." Toevs said. "Three of the leading unlicensed manufacturers have now indicated that they have a solution to keep the category open and competitive."
