TEMECULA, CA -- Mad Dog Energy is building on the success of its flagship energy chew vending program with the addition of a new line of liquid energy shots and a branded machine dedicated to vending them.

The company also announced that it has severed its relationship with Vroom Foods (see VT February, 2008), which produced the original candies dispensed through Mad Dog's unique energy chew vender. Mad Dog is now manufacturing the product under its own brand in four novel flavors.

Packaged in a distinctively logoed 2-fl.oz. plastic bottle, the new Mad Dog Energy Shot contains a nutritious blend of caffeine, vitamins, enzymes and herbs formulated to produce an energy boost and raise alertness in as little as five minutes, and last at least six hours. According to the company, its unique recipe provides "clean energy" that raises alertness without the over-stimulation and subsequent energy dive that is characteristic of other common stimulants such as coffee, sugar and many canned energy drinks. One energy shot contains approximately the same amount of caffeine as one cup of brewed coffee.

Mad Dog Energy Shots contain no sugar, calories or carbohydrates and are offered in pomegranate blueberry, lemon lime, grape and punch flavors. Additional varieties are scheduled to roll out in the near future. The product is shelf stable and carries a two-year shelf life. Mad Dog officials said they have set no minimum case requirement for purchasing the new product, and operators have the choice of vending the product through the company's new machine or existing snack venders.

Mad Dog's patent-pending electronic energy shot vending machine offers four selections and holds 120 units, with a capacity of 30 bottles per selection. The machine, made with UL- and CL-listed components, is equipped to accept $1 and $5 bills, with pricing adjustable from $2 to $6 in 50¢ increments. Suggested pricing for the drink is $3, and the machine is programmed to dispense two bottles at a discounted price of $5. An infrared sensor disables the bill acceptor if product is sold out.

The compact vender measures 21 ins. W. x 8 ins. D. x 33 ins. H., weighs 80 lbs. and requires a 120VAC power supply. A stand is also available with dimensions of 27.5  ins. W. x  20 ins. D. x 17 ins. H.

Mad Dog officials told VT that the chewy energy candies it introduced early this year through its turnkey vending program are now offered at a lower cost since the company has begun manufacturing the product itself. The manufacturer has also extended the energy chew lineup to include chocolate and chocolate mint chews, available as of October 15, and blueberry pomegranate and citrus mango flavors, which will debut shortly thereafter.

Each chew contains a proprietary blend of 100 mg. of caffeine -- the same as a cup of coffee and 25% more than most energy drinks -- ginseng, taurine and B-vitamins formulated to enhance performance, increase endurance and stimulate metabolism.

Operators vend the energy chews for 50¢ a piece through a patented bulk vending machine that Mad Dog redesigned to dispense a single chew per vend. Each machine holds 160 chews, individually wrapped in foil. The company said it is also in the process of developing a retail pack of its energy chews suitable for sale through snack vending machines.
