APPLETON, WI -- L.M. Becker & Co. reports that it will distribute a new capsule vender designed for larger merchandise in the U.S. market, and will also provide products to be sold through the machine.

Called the Tommy Bear Type II Large Capsule Vendor, the innovative unit is electronic (it must be plugged in), and offers adjustable pricing that can be set between 1¢ and $9.99. Both a coin and bill acceptor come standard, and an internal meter separately tracks coin and bill insertions, as well as total vends.

The 58-lb. machine, which will be available in red or purple, measures 14.2 ins. wide by 58.5 ins. tall by 18.3 ins. deep. A lighted display shelf, viewable through a transparent plastic front, helps operators display featured items.

The unit can be adjusted to vend 2.5-in., 3.3-in. or 4-in. capsules easily, without the need for extra parts or special tools. The capacity for each size is 130, 100 or 50 capsules, respectively.

"The larger capsule sizes will allow operators to match new and different products with new customers," company officials said, adding that the Type II is an excellent option for making inroads with locations that traditionally would not allow bulk venders.

L.M. Becker president Jonathan Becker added that the unit is similar to cranes in that it doesn't take revenue away from other venders on location, but rather appeals to a different type of customer.

"Instead of trading dollars for dollars from one machine to another, this unit can increase revenue in an established location," he said. "It's able to offer $2 and $3 products to a different type of audience.

"I believe that this new vending unit could allow the U.S. bulk vending industry to mimic the successes of the European market, selling larger and higher-priced items," he remarked.

Becker said that the company will offer a variety of large-capsule selections, able to retail for $2 and $3, but that a modification kit designed to enable 2-in. capsule vends will be available soon as well. This will allow operators to convert the machine to sell standard bulk fare for 50¢ or 75¢ if they choose.

The Tommy Bear Type II is manufactured by Taiwan-based Tommy Bear Co. Ltd., which owns the trademark and patents for the machine. It has been successfully deployed in both Taiwan and Russia, and now is being distributed in Europe, officials noted. The unit will make its official U.S. debut at the Amusement Showcase International, slated for March 27-29 in Las Vegas.

L.M. Becker & Co., founded in 1941, provides capsuled novelty merchandise and venders to the bulk vending industry. Its toy products are released to end customers under the Toy 'n Joy brand. The company can be reached at (888) 869-6569, or online at lmbecker.com.
