COLOGNE, Germany -- Anuga, one of the oldest international trade fairs, is slated to return to the Cologne Fairgrounds from Oct. 10-14 next year. The 2015 show will be the 33rd presentation of the biennial extravaganza since its postwar revival in 1951.

Featuring 10 specialized sectors in one place -- Bread & Bakery, Hot Beverages, Chilled & Fresh Foods, Dairy, Drinks, Fine Food, Foodservice, Frozen Food, Meat, Organic and "RetailTec" -- the show is supported by the German food industry, and has become the largest food and beverage fair in the world. It's organized by Koelnmesse, which manages about 75 expositions and more than 2,000 conferences a year at the spacious modern Cologne Fairgrounds.

Anuga (originally short for Allgemeine Nahrungs- und Genussmittel-Ausstellung, "general food and drink exhibition") dates back to a specialized food retailers' show held in Stuttgart in 1919, and then in several other cities before moving to Cologne in 1924.

Koelnmesse also has announced that the next Anuga FoodTec show will be held from March 24 through 27, 2015, at the Cologne Fairgrounds. Designed for food and beverage processors, it's said to be the only trade fair in the world that covers all aspects of food production. The overall theme of the 2015 expo is "resource efficiency," and exhibitors will display a variety of solutions for reducing energy, water and food resource depletion during the production process. Also new for 2015 will be a Food Ingredients hall.

First held as a separate event in 1996, Anuga FoodTec was formed by combining the earlier DLG FoodTec, staged by the German Agricultural Society Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft, and Anuga-Technica, previously a sector at the Anuga show.
