LAKEWOOD, NJ -- Jersey Jack Pinball reports that it has completed a comprehensive Wizard of Oz Operations Manual, and is making it available for download. The full-color manual includes instructions for game setup, testing and adjustment, along with parts information, reference diagrams and schematics, as well as advice on service and troubleshooting the game. The appendices include six pages of four-color game pricing cards, nine styles per page, for three- and five-ball games at 75¢, $1 and free play.

Created by the company's E.E. (Butch) Peel, the manual took nearly two years to compile as the game was being designed. In its final form, the PDF volume contains more than 1,200 hyperlinks for easy navigation through its 380 pages.

The company is putting the finishing touches on its final Wizard of Oz 4.0 software update, and plans to distribute it in the near future. Availability will be announced on the Jersey Jack Pinball support site. The final software update includes a file containing the complete 380-page manual, which will be accessible for viewing on the game's 27" LCD monitor. Expanded views of the manual make it a quick and easy reference tool, the company explained. The hyperlinks facilitate use, and the page display can be zoomed in and out.

"This is the first time we know of that a complete game manual is contained in a commercial amusement game and viewable on-screen," said company founder Jack Guarnieri.

The entire manual represents a substantial achievement, Guarnieri observed. "If you review it, it's just an amazing work," he said. The coin-op industry veteran added that nothing like it ever has been done before -- "as usual for us."

Wizard of Oz, which went into full production a year ago, is Jersey Jack's first pinball machine. In addition to the standard model, 1,000 limited-edition Emerald City pieces were sold to pinball enthusiasts.

As the finishing touches are put on the Wizard of Oz project, work continues steadily on the company's next model, The Hobbit. It's available for preorder now, and plans call for initial production by year's end. The company explained that the game's theme and action incorporate elements of all three Hobbit movies, based on the children's classic by J.R.R. Tolkien. The third of these films, The Battle of the Five Armies, is slated for release in December.
