Every route driver has stories about careless drivers. Many would likely insist that their state has the worst drivers on the road. So, just where are the nation's worst drivers? set out to find the definitive answer. In its study, the online insurance website used five types of law enforcement data to reach its conclusions:
» Fatality rate (per 100 million vehicle miles traveled)
» Failure to obey citations issued (traffic signals and seat belts)
» Drunk driving citations
» Number of tickets issued
» Careless driving citations

By grading all states in each enforcement classification, the insurance information site added the rankings for a total. It found the worst drivers in Louisiana, and more seem to be clustered in southern states. Louisiana was closely followed by South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and Florida. Coming in at the bottom of the top 10 worst driving states were Missouri, North Carolina, Montana and North Dakota.
