WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Industry veterans Allen Weintraub and Paul Schlossberg announced the formation of Vending Innovations LLC, a consulting firm that they say will bring innovative solutions to all levels of the vending channel. The Vending Innovations principals have a combined 60 years in the vending business in a variety of roles.

Weintraub and Schlossberg said they plan to work with vending operators to add value to the locations they serve, with a focus on driving greater shopper participation and more frequent purchases.

Product suppliers and distributors stand to benefit from the consultants' expertise by driving increased sales and profits for established product lines, and generating quick trial of new products to establish repeat purchases. "Successes in other channels, competing venues like fast food and convenience stores, point out new directions for marketing and merchandising at the point of sale," Schlossberg said.

The vending veterans also plan to bring technology solutions to vending equipment and peripheral manufacturers. "The vending shopping experience has not changed much in more than 30 years," Schlossberg contends. "We see some interesting new solutions and we're excited about bringing these new developments to the vending channel."

Weintraub is also president of Vending Consultants Co., a consultancy based in Mamaroneck, NY. His company provides sales data from the vending channel to test new products' efficacy, pricing and placements. It also develops computer applications and wireless technologies for vending operators.

With 25 years of industry experience, Weintraub most recently was a senior vice-president at Next Generation Vending and Food Service Inc. (Canton, MA), a vending and foodservice company with $120 million in annual revenues.

Previously, Weintraub developed, installed and deployed two of the largest wireless systems in the vending industry. He has written in vending trade magazines about benefits and costs associated with wireless systems and has consulted in this area in the United States and Europe. In the 1990s, he worked with Audits & Surveys to develop a national sample of product placements in both snack and beverage vending machines that was syndicated to the product manufacturers.

As an attorney, Weintraub has represented vending operators in a wide variety of transactions including acquisitions, franchise agreements and special projects with product manufacturers. He is a graduate of Oberlin College and received his law degree from New York University.

Schlossberg's 35-plus years' experience in foodservice includes assignments in sales and marketing management, new business development, mergers and acquisitions, channel development and strategic planning.

His company, D/FW Consulting (Goshen, NY), specializes in branded product and market development projects. Client assignments concentrate on new business programs and key account sales development in foodservice, vending, convenience stores and other market segments with strong impulse-purchase potential. With extensive experience developing new products and opening distribution channels, Schlossberg has introduced more than 50 products generating over $100 million in incremental sales.

Previously, he served at Frito-Lay as director of marketing and national accounts. As national sales manager for Frito-Lay, he combined the vending and foodservice sales forces and directed the national rollout of the foodservice business, increasing sales by $150 million from 1985 to 1991.

Schlossberg also held marketing management positions at General Foods, Dr Pepper and Borden. As director of food and beverage for TGI Friday's, he was responsible for menu development. His career began at H.J. Heinz, where he developed and introduced The Educated Pizza, the first product approved by the USDA under the Child Nutrition Labeling Program.

Schlossberg is a graduate of the Baruch School of Business and Public Administration (CCNY). He earned his MBA from Pennsylvania State University.
