BRUSSELS, Belgium -- The European Vending Association has scheduled the next in its biennial series of EurOps conferences for Estoril, a seaside resort adjacent to Lisbon, Portugal, on April 14 and 15. The confab's theme is "Getting more from less: opportunities to raise the profitability of vending operating," and the program will explore some of the lessons learned during the current recession.

The program is organized into three sessions: efficiencies, opportunities and finance management. The first will survey such tools as route planning, fleet management, human resource optimization and loss prevention, all of which can bolster the bottom line.

The second is being designed to review opportunities, some of them unexpected, that the economic downturn has created for vending operators, and to probe some ancillary and collateral activities that can produce additional income streams. The potential of new technology, including payment systems, to increase value also will be surveyed.

The finance management segment will take a close look at such crucial topics as better cashflow management and the establishment of procedures for passing increased commodity costs along to clients.

Two principal networking events have been organized to complement the conference. An "icebreaking" cocktail reception is being organized to welcome participants on Thursday, April 14. After the conference concludes on Friday, participants will be able to enjoy an unusual dinner cruise aboard the palatial yacht Lisboa Vista do Tejo in historic Lisbon Harbor and the storied Tejo River (called the Tajo across the border, in Spain).

The EVA will bestow its inaugural Image of Vending award in conjunction with EurOps 2011. The award has been designed to recognize innovation by every segment of the vending industry, honoring advances that have made a marked improvement to its global image. The 2011 contest is open to products, services and initiatives introduced since June, 2009 by members of EVA and its affiliated national associations.

Nominations for the award may be submitted by EVA and national association members by visiting, and following the links under events/evaconferences to the image-of-vending-award page -- or click here. All entries will be judged by an international panel of industry experts, representing most of the European countries and segments of the vending industry.

Also new at EurOps 2011 is "supportive sponsoring," an addition to the usual sponsorship program. Supportive sponsors will have the opportunity to strengthen their relationships with their principal operator customers by inviting them to attend EurOps 2011 at a preferred rate.

The last EurOps conference was staged in Berlin, Germany, in spring 2009. | SEE STORY

The 2011 event will take place in the luxurious Hotel Palacio Estoril. Registration is available online at the EVA website. A special early-bird rate is available for participants who register by Feb.11, and registration will close on March 31. Room reservations must be made directly with the Hotel Palacio Estoril

The European Vending Association is a not-for-profit organization representing the interests of the entire vending industry. Its members include not only 21 national vending associations, but also manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and operators.
