BRUSSELS-- The European Vending Association has published its latest report on the vending and coffee service market in Europe. It's based on full-year 2015 data.

The new report benefits from refined methodology, the association explained. It involved more vending operator interviews, and has added some new data sources. This has required several modifications to historical statistics.

EVA added that one objective of the ongoing research has been to include more data on the office coffee service market, which constitutes a growing segment of the industry. In view of these enhancements, the new report is not designed to be read as a continuation of previous editions.

Among positive findings of the study is that several markets that have undergone several years of decline have either started to grow again, or at least remained stable. At the same time, the study found that certain markets experiencing difficult economic circumstances, for example Greece and Russia, are still struggling.

The report incorporates data gathered over a 10-year period, including the vending turnover of various countries, the installed field base and sales volumes (vends), and a detailed breakdown of hot beverage machine composition. For the first time, countertop hot drink equipment is divided into automatic and semi-automatic categories. The report also provides insights into important legislative trends that are likely to impact the vending and OCS industries

Some of the interesting statistics revealed by this latest report include:

» The overall installed base (number of machines) was 3.8 million last year, representing a 0.3% increase over 2014.

» Total market revenue in 2015 was €14.6 billion ($416.4 billion).

» There are around 130 Europeans per vending machine.

» Over 80% of European machines are located in workplaces.

» Vending machines in Europe sell more than 90 million food and drink items daily.

This is the fourth edition of the industry market report compiled by EVA. It consists of a European summary with an overview of 21 countries, as well as separate detailed market reports for individual countries.

EVA members have free access to both the European summary and the individual country profiles, and can download them from the EVA members' only Web page. Others interested in purchasing the report can visit vending-europe.eu for more information.
