COLOGNE, Germany -- The sponsors and management of Eu'Vend & Coffeena say this year's workplace refreshment services convention and trade show will continue its steady growth trend. Held every two years at the historic Cologne Fairgrounds (Kölnmesse), this year's event is slated for April 27-29.

The 2017 staging will be the eighth successive presentation and the fourth to collocate with Coffeena. It will be the first combined show to be held in the spring. The show's organizers explained that, with the exhibition dates at midyear, the industry's annual highlights in Germany and elsewhere in Europe now take place at intervals of about 12 months. | SEE STORY

"The focus of consumers is increasingly on a good cup of coffee," the organizers said. "An ever-increasing number of coffee connoisseurs have fully automatic coffee machines at home and expect barista-quality coffee." This has made office coffee service increasingly important to workplace refreshment service providers in Europe, just as it has in North America.

Eu'Vend & Coffeena is a major trade fair and international meeting point for coffee and hot beverages sold through vending machines. It also spotlights vended food and nonfood sales, as well as the latest trends in food and nonfood filling products, payment systems and coffee production, processing and preparation.

BDV reports that approximately 14.9 million beverages and snacks from vending machines are consumed every day in Germany alone. Annual sales thus are about 5.4 billion beverages and snacks, an increase of 2.7%, compared with 2014.

With these positive trends in mind, Eu´Vend & Coffeena is focusing on OCS and other out-of-home market segments with new vending and coffee concepts for workplace, leisure-time and hospitality venues. New this year will be a special event, the Office Coffee Corner. An expert forum titled Visions of Vending -- Snacks and Coffee Live will explore current questions and challenges facing the industry.

Making return engagements in 2017 will be the Red Sofa discussion forum and the widely publicized Vending Star competition, at which the industry's most innovative ideas and developments are awarded prizes.

Eu'Vend & Coffeena is administered by Cologne Trade Fair (Kölnmesse). German vending operators' association BDV (Bundesverband der Deutschen Vending-Automatenwirtschaft e.V.) is the event's conceptual sponsor. And the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe is an educational sponsor of Coffeena.
