Del Monte Unveils Single-Serve Fresh Fruit, Vegetable Vend ProgramDel monte

Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. has launched a line of bananas and other fresh-cut fruit and vegetables packaged specifically for vending, as well as a branded dual-temperature machine for them. The dual-temperature vender permits the bananas to be held at ambient temperature while fresh-cut products are refrigerated. Del Monte also plans to offer the new product line to operators for sale through their existing equipment. Recommended vend prices range from $1 to $2.25.

The fresh-cut products, in portion sizes ranging from 4-oz. to 6-oz., also include pineapple chunks, grapes, apple slices, baby carrots, celery and tomatoes. Some are paired with light dips, and all contain 120 calories or less.

Del Monte's proprietary banana packaging slows down the ripening process and extends the yellow life of the fruit to five days when held at an ambient temperature of 57°F-60°F. It also is said to help maintain freshness and appearance while improving the texture and sweetness of the banana.

The company has an extensive network of distribution centers, as well as fresh-cut and re-pack facilities, strategically located throughout key cities in the U.S., which permits fast, convenient distribution of the new product line.

The vending line has been tested in Illinois and south Florida, in various schools, health clubs, parks, institutions and office facilities. It initially will roll out to operators in select market areas throughout the mid-Atlantic and Southeast, with availability increasing nationwide at the beginning of 2010.

Headquartered in Coral Gables, FL, Del Monte Fresh Produce Co. is one of the world's leading vertically integrated producers, marketers and distributors of fresh and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.

Fastcorp Appoints 24Vend Ltd. International Development Partner

FastcorpFastcorp LLC has appointed 24Vend Ltd. (Basingstoke, Hampshire, England) as its international business development partner for its line of novel temperature-controlled venders.

24Vend principals Gillian White and Neil Harrington bring extensive industry experience to the task of deepening Fastcorp's penetration of the international market, said Fastcorp president Todd Piatnik. They most recently served with Mars Chocolate in the United Kingdom. "They will be the 'face' for Fastcorp International and develop country opportunities with brands, operators, distributors and service providers," Piatnik explained.

White observed that the opportunity for vending ice cream and other frozen foods is virtually untapped in many areas, and the Fastcorp line is well-suited to fill that void.

Danbury, CT-based Fastcorp manufactures frozen "vacuum-robotic" vending equipment in two basic configurations, a 20-select combination food and ice cream vender and a 12-select dedicated ice cream machine. The innovative vacuum product retrieval and delivery system used in both designs allows product to be stored efficiently and securely in a base-mounted freezer chest that opens only when a vend is being made. This permits accurate temperature maintenance with very low energy consumption.
