LONDON -- EAG International and Visitor Attraction Expo 2018 are expected to attract a record number of professionals to the ExCel London Exhibition Centre from January 16 through 18. The co-located shows combine the familiar with the new: EAG International continues a 70-year tradition of a January coin-op show in London, while the Visitor Attraction Expo, now in its fourth year, is a relative newcomer.

Both shows have their own distinct identities, their organizers report, and each benefits greatly from crossover between their target markets. EAG International has always been about coin-op amusements and low-stakes gaming, while VAE's focus is on smaller attractions as well as indoor and adventure play. Their continued co-location reflects changes in the industry as entertainment venues continue to expand and diversify their on-site offerings.

This year's double event will feature its usual sprawling array of exhibitors and provide high-value networking opportunites for industry professionals. These benefits are augmented by an ambitious seminar line-up that will address pressing issues in the context of their effects on a broader range of industry segments.

"This year we're particularly proud of our seminar program," said show organizer Karen Cooke. "We've managed to engage some really interesting speakers on a diverse range of subjects.

"The show's appeal is broader than at the outset, with more visitors from the wider leisure community, including play centres, holiday parks, stand-alone visitor attractions and sports facilities," Cooke explained. "The show, for these groups, is about opportunities for incremental income and enhancing the guest experience. We believe that the sessions will be thought-provoking and directly relevant to a wide range of businesses."

Among the seminar topics to be tackled at this year's EAG and VAE event are growing a business with social media; common compliance themes in the arcade sector; and the implications of new virtual reality technology and how it has a direct impact on the amusements and attractions sector in the UK and beyond.

EAG was inaugurated by its sponsoring organization, the British Amusement Catering Trades Association, in 2010, to maintain the long tradition of a mid-winter coin-op amusements exposition. The first Visitor Attraction Expo was organized by the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions in 2015, in coperation with BACTA. BALPPA represents owners, managers, suppliers and developers of static attractions, including family entertainment centers, parks, piers and zoos.
