ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions has elected Greg Hale as chairman of the board for 2017. Hale is vice-president and chief safety officer of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. He officially accepted the chairman's gavel during IAAPA's Attractions Expo in Orlando, FL, in mid-November.

Hale joined Disney in 1988 as manager of electrical and electronics engineering. His responsibility and rank for ride and show engineering, design and regulatory compliance rose rapidly over the ensuing 15 years, after which he took on his current role. He's been an IAAPA volunteer for 20 years, serving two board terms. He's also served on and chaired IAAPA's Global Safety Committee.

The board of directors also selected new officers. Elected first vice-chairman is Andreas Andersen, president and chief executive of Sweden's Liseberg. Chosen as treasurer is Charles "Hank" Salemi, president of Six Flags Great America. Paul Noland was reelected IAAPA president and chief executive.
