Den's Hot Dogs Adds Kosher Variety For Vending Machines And Micromarkets

BROOKLYN, NY -- Den's Hot Dogs is widening the market for its prepackaged, all-beef hotdogs on buns with a kosher line. Den's new Kosher On the Go line features premium beef kosher frankfurters on kosher French baguette-style buns. They are sold with two condiment choices, sauerkraut or relish. Each 4.9-oz. box also includes packets of ketchup and mustard, along with a wet napkin.

Den's hotdogs are ready to eat after microwaving for 30 seconds if refrigerated and one minute when frozen. They have a 21-day refrigerated and nine-month frozen shelf life.

Den's introduced its original Gourmet On The Go single-serve hotdogs in November 2015, followed early this year by the addition of Natural On the Go, made with natural and uncured beef. The hotdogs in the original gourmet and natural lines come with one of four toppings: sauerkraut, pineapple chutney, sweet relish or onions in tomato sauce.

Den's Hot Dogs founder Denys Gorbatiuk told VT that visitors to its booth at several trade shows have asked him whether the company had or could produce a kosher hotdog.

"At one of those shows, a current customer complimented us on the outer box design and overall appearance of our product, but said she couldn't try them because they weren't kosher," Gorbatiuk said. "That was the proverbial last straw for me, so we decided to conduct a search to identify market demand and potential competition for it. To our surprise, we couldn't find any [prepackaged, heat-and-eat] kosher hotdogs available anywhere. Realizing that approximately a 10-million-people market is basically unserved, we decided to change that."

That was easier said than done. Gorbatiuk found that there were very few choices of kosher hotdog components -- buns, frankfurters and condiments -- available on the market. Moreover, out of those few that he found, few were suitable. The company eventually sourced suitable ingredients and its Kosher On the Go line will hit the market in December.

The company is also developing new "fancy" condiments that it will add to its Den's Natural and Gourmet On the Go line in the first quarter of 2017.

Gorbatiuk explained that the product is designed to meet growing "desktop dining" demands from busy office workers who crave hot meals, but have just a moment to find a quick bite from the nearest vending machine or micromarket. He is a former corporate attorney whose passion to create a premium on-the-go hotdog inspired his career shift.

In addition to vending and micromarkets, Den's Hot Dogs is targeting convenience stores, movie theaters, airports, baseball stadiums and college campuses throughout the U.S.
