SEARCH TERM TAMPA, FL -- The National Confectionery Sales Association has bestowed its Distinguished Service Medal on Michael Gilmore, vice-president of business development at Ferrara Candy Co. (Forest Park, IL). The award, which recognizes long service and on behalf of the association, was made during its annual Candy Hall of Fame induction and banquet here.

Gilmore, who was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2001, has worked in the industry for more than four decades. He held managerial and executive positions at Standard Brands Inc. and Rowntree Ltd. USA, and became chief executive of the latter. He then served as chief operating and director of Ferrera USA Inc. from 1988 until he retired in 2007.

Formerly called Ferrara Pan Candy, it became Ferrara Candy Co. following a merger with Farley's & Sathers Candy Co. (Round Lake, MN) in May 2012. Farley's and Sathers produced such well-known lines as Brach's, Chuckles, Jujyfruits, Now and Later and Trolli. Ferrara Pan Candy, a longtime supplier of popular bulk vending confections, manufactured both branded and private-label confections. Its principal lines are Atomic Fireballs, Black Forest, Boston Baked Beans, Lemonheads and Red Hot.

Gilmore was president of the National Confectionery Sales Association (Cleveland) from 2007 to 2009, and chairman of the National Confectioners Association (Washington) in 2009 and 2010.

The National Confectionery Sales Association was established 125 years ago to foster positive growth and acceptance of confectionery products, and to recognize the achievements of category leaders from all sectors of the industry. The Candy Hall of Fame was founded in 1971.
