Coffee Production In Colombia Increases 5% In 12 Months

BOGOTA -- Colombia's coffee production reached more than 14 million 60-kilo bags over the past 12 months (October 2015-Septebmer 2016), according to the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC). This represented a 5% increase, compared with the 13.3 million bags produced between October 2014 and September 2015.

Coffee production in September decreased 2%, yielding 1.034 million coffee bags. Similarly, year-to-date production (January 2016- September 2016) was 9.9 million 60-kilo bags. This represented a 2% decrease from the 10 million bags produced during the same previous period.

In this coffee year so far, Colombian coffee exports have experienced a mild recovery, FNC said. Between October 2015 and September 2016, exports increased 0.5%, reaching 12.34 million 60-kilo bags.

Coffee exports in September reached 1.040 million bags. This represented a 4% decrease, compared with the 1.086 million bags registered in September 2015. Similarly, year-to-date coffee exports (January-September 2016) decreased 4%, yielding 8.9 million 60-kilo bags.
