Coca-Cola Amatil Tests Vending Machines Using Audio Technology As Authentication Mechanism

NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia -- Coca-Cola Amatil, one of the largest bottlers of nonalcoholic ready-to-drink beverages in the Asia-Pacific region, is using Signal 360's audio beacon technology at its vending machines.

Signal 360's technology facilitates a secure authentication mechanism that allows vending machines to vend beverage products through Coca-Cola Amatil's Vendswift mobile application.

Signal 360, formerly Sonic Notify, is an in-venue mobile notification platform for real-time proximity informed user engagement. It uses cross-platform inaudible sound notifications and the emerging Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) standard to wirelessly enable physical locations to communicate with mobile devices.

There are currently 50 Coca-Cola Amatil vending machines equipped by Signal 360 in a limited geographic trial. The VendSwift solution is now available for use at these machines, according to the bottler.

"Our objective was to create a fun, new and value-added way for consumers to interact with our vending machines," said Coca-Cola Amatil general manager of vending systems services Andy Kerr. "By leveraging technologies like Signal 360's audio solution, we can provide our consumers with an efficient vending experience and [they can] get rewarded for their purchases."
