BOSTON -- Bevi said it has signed a distribution partnership for Canteen's Refreshment Services division to bring its sparkling and flavored water machines to all major metropolitan areas in the continental U.S. Bevi previously served clients only in New York, Boston and San Francisco.

Bevi was founded in 2013 by MIT and Yale graduates who shared a sustainable vision to provide beverages without needing a disposable bottle. The Bevi machine allows users to customize still and sparkling water with unsweetened, zero-calorie or organically sweetened natural flavors via a touchscreen display. It accepts any size container, with a single-nozzle design. Machines connect to the Internet, providing real-time inventory and operational data.

The company said that in 2016, it went from serving a handful of Boston tech companies with its high-tech coolers to deploying them in several major cities throughout the world.

"When companies are forward looking and make use of technology, as well as answering the growing demand for more sustainable and healthier options, we pay attention," said Canteen Refreshment Services president Mike Flanagan.

Canteen, based in Charlotte, NC, is the nation's largest provider of vending, office coffee service and micromarkets. It is a division of foodservice giant Compass Group which had $16 billion in revenues in 2016.
