HOT AND COLD: Bona Fide Craft Draft Brewing Co. sales and alliance director Spencer Weiner (l.) and chief executive John Goerke host nitro cold brew coffee and tea sample session for Zaneta Seilerova of Trafficdom Digital Marketing Agency (Santa Barbara, CA) during recent National Automatic Merchandising Association Coffee, Tea & Water Show in New Orleans.
GOLETA, CA -- Nitro cold brew coffee has fast become a coffeehouse staple and Bona Fide Craft Draft Brewing Co. is rolling out a turnkey workplace-friendly "bean-to-keg" solution that dispenses it chilled or hot. The company has further innovated the category by pioneering nitro tea.
"Because we are not a coffee roaster, but rather a brewery, we collaborate with coffee roasters as brand partners," explained Bona Fide Craft Draft Brewing Co. founder and chief executive John Goerke. "The fun part of this is, after 30 years in the coffee business, I get to collaborate with roasters and brands I admire to create a profoundly good draft coffee. It's sustainable and scalable. More than private-label bean-to-keg services, Bona Fide's 'brewing alliance' helps coffee brands compete nationally in the cold brew gold rush."
Bona Fide ships its finished kegs from its 13,500-sq.ft. blends organic and kosher certified facility in Goleta, CA, with capacity to brew more than 10,000 kegs per month.
The appeal of nitro coffee brew coffee, and now tea, is its creamy mouthfeel, natural sweetness, cascade of tiny bubbles, and thick, foamy head. Bona Fide pairs its kegs with a table-top flash chiller and hot nitro dispenser.
Through its proprietary, oxygen-free vacuum "Craft Draft" process, Bona Fide preserves the flavors of its coffee and tea with no artificial preservatives or stabilizers used in the process. The kegged product is pasteurized and guaranteed food safe and flavor-stable for 120 days when refrigerated and can be held at ambient temperature for 30 days. This allows Bona Fide to ship ambient via UPS and regular ambient LTL freight.
Bona Fide's kegged house coffees, roasted by brewing alliance partner Caribbean Coffee Co., include organic Guatemala, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Peru, 100% Kona Extra Fancy and Hair Raiser – its signature super-dark French roast blend sourced from Africa and Indonesia. Organic hibiscus, mango and passion fruit tea round out its repertoire.
Its countertop dispensing system, offered in two models that chill or heat beverages on demand, needs only a keg of Bona Fide coffee or tea, a bottle of nitrogen gas with a regulator and a 110v. electric plug. It delivers the beverages, infused with nitrogen gas. The dispenser is wrapped in a stylish, easy-to-clean stainless steel. Handles are built into the top of each unit for easy moving and convenient demonstrations. The company also offers  "nitrogen-less" bag-in-keg solution.
Bona Fide currently provides complimentary delivery and empty keg pickup west of the Mississippi and is gearing up for a Florida rollout next. The company will exhibit at the National Automatic Merchandising Association's NAMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Apr. 24-26.
