Best Candy Of 2012: National Confectionery Sales Association Honors Product Innovation

TAMPA, FL -- The National Confectionery Sales Association announced the winners of its New Product Awards for 2012 at its Candy Hall of Fame. induction banquet here, which was attended by more than 300 confection and snack industry guests. The event highlighted the association's 113th annual meeting, which was held from Oct. 19 through 21.

Crystal Awards and Certificates of Achievement were presented in six categories. Product nominations were made by candy and snack buyers, brokers and suppliers, and winnowed to 30 semifinal entries by a panel of industry experts. Each of the products chosen for judging demonstrated notable innovation and/or strong sales potential for snack and candy sellers.

Winners of the coveted Crystal Awards are The Hershey Co.'s Air Delight Kisses and Bars (Chocolate); the Crunch Girl Scouts line by Nestlé USA (Licensed/Limited Edition); Jolly Rancher Crunch 'N Chew, also by Hershey (Non-Chocolate); Brownie Brittle from Sheila G Brands (Snacks), Brown & Haley's Dark Roca (Premium/Gourmet) and M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn by Mars Chocolate North America (Seasonal).

In the Chocolate category, Certificates of Achievement went to PB&J Sandwich from Hammond's Candies; Snickers 3X Chocolate from Mars Chocolate North America; Tuxedos Chocolate-Covered Almonds by The Promotion In Motion Cos. Inc.; and Cocktail-Flavored Truffles from Seattle Chocolates.

In the Licensed/Limited Edition category, certificates of achievement were awarded to Welch's Filled Licorice from Frankford Candy LLC; Snapple Mix Bottles by Jelly Belly Candy Co.; Country Time Chewy Candy Lemonade Chews from Sorbee International LLC; and Storck USA's Mamba Duo.

Non-chocolate category certificates were presented for Neapolitan Coconut Candy from Atkinson Candy Co.; Ginger-Lemon Gummi Candy from Haribo of America Inc.; the Celebration Line from SweetWorks Inc.; and Starburst FlavorMorph by Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co.

Certificates of achievement in the Snacks category were awarded to PBthins from Bell Plantations Inc.; Plentils from Enjoy Life Natural Brands LLC; the M&M's Brand Snack Mix from Mars Chocolate North America; and Greek Yogurt Bars from Rickland Orchards.

In the Premium/Gourmet category, certificates were garnered by Chuao Chocolatier's All Natural Chocolate Bar Line; Premium Collection Crispy Chocolate Thins from Dorval Trading Co. Ltd.; Simple Squares from Simplified Foods; and Organic Hard Candy by Torie & Howard LLC.

Seasonal Category certificates went to Blood Orange Candy Canes from Hammond's Candies; Gourmet Candy Corn Tins by Jelly Belly Candy Co.; Chocolate-Dipped Caramel-Flavored Peeps from Just Born Inc.; and Choxcard from Praim Group LLC.

The National Confectionery Sales Association, formed in 1899, is dedicated to furthering positive growth and acceptance of confectionery products, and honoring the achievements of category leaders from all sectors of the industry worldwide.
