Bandai Namco reports that production of the new Star Wars: Battle Pod is now under way, and the games will be shipping in March. The factory said this is a limited release, and that preorders for the videogame came in quickly and copiously since it made its international debut at the International Association of Parks and Attractions 2014 Attractions Expo last fall.

The Star Wars Battle Pod is based on the perennial favorite Star Wars saga created by George Lucas. The Bandai Namco game was previewed at last year's New York Comic Con (see VT, October 2014) before making its debut at IAAPA's expo in Orlando, FL. It is a high-speed arcade video simulator that challenges players to advance through five stages of play, experiencing the fiercest battle scenes from the films. The high-tech cabinet was developed by Bandai Namco Japan, while the gaming software was created in Singapore at Bandai Namco Studios.

A highlight of the Battle Pod is a dome-shaped projection screen that commands the player's entire field of vision, providing a 180° horizontal coverage angle. Inside the pod, state-of-the-art force-feedback technologies are incorporated into the controllers and seat for proprioceptive simulation of shots, explosions and maneuvers. "Airbursts" aimed at the player enhance the illusion of speed and acceleration as combatants take command of the films' iconic Snowspeeders, Speederbikes, X-wings, Millennium Falcon and TIE Advanced fighters. The effects are intensified by a five-channel surround-sound system.
