CD Format "On The Way Out" Says Top Warners Executive

LOS ANGELES - Warner Bros. Records is releasing its first-ever album in digital download format only, with no CD version to be published, on Sept. 27, and top executives predict that CDs will eventually disappear from the market. Perry Watts-Russell, a senior vice-president at Warner Bros. Is quoted in the Washington Post as saying: "The CD [is]... on its way out.... The writing is on the wall." Watts-Russell cautioned that the CD is still important in today's market, but said non-CD releases would become increasingly common. But he suggested that the demise of the format is inevitable. The CD-less album is "Blame It On the Youth" from a group called The Sun. DVD and vinyl versions will be available.

Weak Performance Prompts Dave & Buster's To Convert Jillian's

DALLAS , Dave & Buster's Inc. will convert most of its nine Jillian's stores to the D&B's brand. The company acquired the facilities out of bankruptcy last year. Management spent $8 million on capital improvements to the Jillian's stores, and an additional $10 million upgrading games and food, yet still wasn't able to turn around the locations around using the Jillian's name and concept. D&B's said this week that its second-quarter 2005 fiscal results would be lower than originally forecast. D&B's stock prices dropped some 20% on early trading following the news. The good news: comparable store revenues for D&B-branded stores rose 0.2% for the quarter, as compared to the same period last year. D&B's vice-president of amusements Cory Haynes told VT that price-value promotions are driving traffic and boosting sales significantly.

TVT will handle sales and marketing, said the company's national sales director Mehdi Eghbal.

LAS VEGAS , TouchTunes Music Corp. will give away 10 digital downloading jukeboxes to operators in a free sweepstakes drawing at the upcoming AMOA Expo (Sept. 14 through 16, Las Vegas). In theory, a single operator or distributor could win all 10.
