LAS VEGAS -- Now available from Astrosystems is the GBA (Global Bill Acceptor) ST1, designed to fit a wide variety of equipment, allow for high security and maximize customer convenience.

Fabricated of durable plastic, the ST1 can be installed in either up- or down-stacking orientations. It can accommodate locking cashboxes to improve collection security. To accommodate slimline machine designs, the ST1 can be configured for installation in depths as constricted as 10cm. (about 4 ins.).

Flashing illuminated banknote guides have been added to offer more intuitive patron-friendly operation. A new validation system called Sense Technology provides a very high rate of authentic note acceptance while maintaining protection against counterfeit bills and fraud attempts. The ST1 also offers a variety of interface options, including the multi-drop bus (MDB) vending protocol.

"The ST1 delivers the performance and functionality previously restricted to top-end note validators, at a price to suit most budgets," said Astrosys International group marketing manager Robert Bird. "Whilst the ST1 meets all the standards expected of a bill acceptor, the focus has been on reliability and serviceability." For example, the device can be stripped down and reassembled in 30 seconds or less, and reconfiguration from down-stack to up-stack operation can be effected by changing only one part.

Astrosystems is the U.S. branch of an international company, Astrotech Group, headquartered in Hong Kong. Founded in 1984, it maintains two ISO9001-certified manufacturing plants in China, and services its diversified worldwide markets through an international network of offices in Australia, the U.S. and the United Kingdom, supported by representation in other important global markets. In 1999, it acquired Australia's Microsystem Controls, a leading maker of coin validation systems.

Astrosys International Ltd. specializes in the design, manufacture and distribution of currency validation systems. Its GBA banknote readers and Microcoin coin mechanisms have found widespread use in  vending, amusement and gaming markets around the world. The company maintains an extensive software library and presently contains banknote recognition for more than 90 international currencies.

Because of its worldwide presence, the company has completed a transition program that will deliver products 100% compliant with the European Union's "RoHS" directive, Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment. This requires EU member nations to enact curbs on the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ether.

"Even though our products are also used in markets which do not require RoHS compliance, we have taken this opportunity to convert our manufacturing facilities to RoHS-compliant standards," Bird explained.

The U.S. facility is located at 4210 Production Ct., Las Vegas, NV 89115, tel. (702) 643-1600, fax (702) 643-1717. The  organization maintains a number of websites, among them gba-st1.com and microcoin.com. Information may be requested from robert@microcoin.com.
