LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Arkansas Vending Council reports that its 2013 annual convention, held for the first time in conjunction with the Legislative Days government relations program, was a resounding success. The confab was held at the Wyndham Hotel here late in February.

First-day activities included a board meeting, a legislative update by National Automatic Merchandising Association regional legislative director Sheree Edwards, a roundtable discussion of industry issues and a festive dinner.

The next day, conference-goers visited the state capitol to drop off vend-product samples at Senate and House offices, for elected officials and their staffs. The legislative luncheon, hosted by AVC government affairs counselors Bruce Hawkins and Camie Boggess, drew a number of distinguished guests including Sen. Linda Chesterfield (D-North Little Rock; Rep. Dan Douglas (R-Bentonville); Rep. Robert Dale (R-Dover); Rep. Stephanie Malone (R-Ft. Smith); Rep. Mark Perry (D-Jacksonville) and Rep. Mary Lou Slinkard (R-Gravett).

"AVC is taking a new approach to attracting people to our state association by combining our annual convention and Legislative Day into one event," said AVC president Bill Tervin, Advanced Vending (Fort Smith). "In doing so, we believe it serves the dual-purpose of showcasing our industry while providing a valuable opportunity to educate elected officials on our efforts.

"AVC represents a broad range of members, from operators to manufacturers, and we want to demonstrate that we're a valuable resource on issues that impact their businesses," Tervin explained. "At the same time, we want to communicate the value of vending to local economies throughout the state."

AVC is a NAMA affiliated state council.
