SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Slated to debut at the National Automatic Merchandising Association's upcoming OneShow in Chicago is Apriva Vend, a comprehensive cashless payment solution for the vending machine industry.

Described as a flexible service providing all the components needed for secure cashless vending, Apriva Vend integrates secure wireless technology with advanced hardware from MEI (West Chester, PA) and powerful back-office software tools. Apriva works with Tier 1 wireless communication providers and leading financial services to provide payment card processing and merchant account services. It also offers assistance to operators through its Apriva Cashless Coaches, who provide step-by-step strategic and implementation support.

Apriva Vend has been designed to simplify the process of deploying cashless solutions while giving operators and bottlers faster access to funds compared to most competitive services, the company claims.

"Recent market surveys indicate that a growing number of consumers are expecting to use credit and debit cards for purchases at almost all retail locations," said Bill Clark, executive vice-president and general manager of Apriva's North American point of sale division. "This accelerating trend clearly impacts the vending industry, which is continuously seeking competitive business models to boost revenue and increase margins.

"Apriva Vend enables operators and bottlers to quickly and cost-effectively deploy secure, reliable and profitable cashless vending solutions to capitalize on this growing segment," Clark continued. It also can provide vending machine alerts and alarms in real time and can send data to other partners.

Founded in 1999, Apriva provides end-to-end wireless transactions and secure information messaging solutions that meet the demanding security and reliability requirements of financial services providers, government entities and public service sectors. Its two operating groups -- Apriva Point of Sale (POS) and Apriva Information Security Systems (ISS) -- offer fully managed, end-to-end security solutions incorporating hardware, software, network infrastructure and management tools.

"By listening to the vending community, Apriva has created a service that goes beyond the financial and operational shortcomings of prior efforts," noted George Peabody, director of Mercator Advisory Group's Emerging Technologies advisory service (Maynard, MA). "As the largest and most experienced wireless gateway operator, Apriva has taken its secure communications expertise to the challenging unattended payment market."

Apriva Vend also streamlines backend business practices, the company explained. This often results in faster access to funds, thus improving cash flow.

"Faster settlement only improves the Apriva Vend business proposition," Peabody added.

Apriva Vend is now available through select Apriva partners including MEI. Information may be had online by visiting, or by visiting the Apriva exhibit in booth No. 2133 at the NAMA OneShow, April 28 through 30.
