NEW YORK CITY — The Amusement & Music Owners of New York has announced that its 2019 Man of the Year is Jamie Sura, senior vice-president of sales for TouchTunes. He will be honored at the association's 2019 gala dinner at Patrizia's Restaurant here on Tuesday, May 7.

The AMOA-NY's annual awards dinner has become an eagerly anticipated highlight of the New York amusements and music industry. In addition to paying tribute to an industry leader, the association takes advantage of the occasion to recognize a recording artist whose works are popular with jukebox patrons in the greater metropolitan New York market.

"Jamie is a well-liked executive, widely known throughout the amusement/music operator industry," said AMOA-NY president Ken Goldberg, Emerson Amusement Co. (Woodside. NY). "He has been part of the TouchTunes team since 2009, instrumental in helping to build TouchTunes' network to more than 65,000 locations." Sura's experience includes his leadership at TouchTunes for national accounts, technical services, inside sales, and the Canadian market.

Prior to joining TouchTunes, Sura served as vice-president/small and medium business at Bell Canada, where he was responsible for driving sales to 25,000 enterprises. His career credits also include management roles at both IBM and Snap-On Tools.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Physics and French Literature from Colgate University (Hamilton, NY). He is a member of the American Amusement Machine Association's Industry Promotion Committee, and is also takes part in most Amusement and Music Operators Association special events, including the annual state council meeting and local operator associations.

Past honorees have included Richard Kirby, Robert Geschine, Kevin Fritz, David Cohen, Michael Maas, Eugene Jarvis, Charles "Chuck" Peitz, Allen Weisberg, Phil Cohn, Nina Byron, and John Margold. Commemorative videos of past annual AMOA-NY fêtes may be enjoyed at watching the below YouTube videos:

"In what is becoming a tradition, we expect to feature another recording artist as AMOA-NY's 'Jukebox Artist of the Year' for 2019," Goldberg continued. "Last year, AMOA-NY was privileged to make a 'Tribute to the Punk Rock Music Movement,' featuring C.J. Ramone of The Ramones and 'Handsome' Dick Manitoba of The Dictators." (Both bands originated in New York City). Previous featured artists have included B.J. Thomas in 2017 and Tony Orlando 2016, as well as The Stylistics, Judy Collins, Dionne Warwick and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary. The identity of the annual honoree is a closely kept secret prior to the event.

The setting for the 2019 AMOA-NY Awards Dinner again will be Patrizia's at  462-466 2nd Ave. by 26th St. in mid-town Manhattan, which played host to last year's Gala and proved very popular with the guests. One of New York's most famous Old World Italian restaurants. Goldberg promises an extraordinary 13-course dinner plus cocktails.

AMOA-NY executive director Danny Frank urged industry members to take part in the celebration through the purchase of tickets and video sponsorships. "Because of the funds previously provided, AMOA-NY has so far prevailed on a number of issues where the enterprises of operators are being threatened," he explained. "Our business owners continue suffering from the pressure of unfair competition from government-sponsored 'gambling' entities and mega-companies. They want government-approved exclusives to kick us out of our space, and usurp our operations.  Anyone who doubts this is welcome to visit and experience, first-hand, the challenges we face in fighting back in the halls of government."

AMOA-NY members' ticket price is $375 per person, and $500 per person for nonmembers. A table of 10 for members or nonmembers costs $2,700, which includes the cost of a video ad for the host. Registration at the door is $650 per person.

"If you cannot attend May 7, please be an advertiser/sponsor of our 'souvenir video' which will receive ample exposure, and which will be nationally and internationally accessible," Frank added. The cost of sponsorship is $150 for AMOA-NY members, $250 for non-members. "As a video advertiser/sponsor, you are contributing money that is earmarked for our government affairs and economic development issues."

Checks payable to AMOA-New York may be sent to Danny Frank, executive director c/o Emerson Amusements, 72-10 51st Rd., Woodside, NY 11377. Frank may be reached at (212) 279-1041, fax (802) 362-4611 or dannyfrank@comcast.net.
