GRAB AND GO: April Vogel and Eddie Hodes of Watch Sports Lounge and Grill keep ShelfX machine (owned by Lenny Fresquez of Fresquez Co.) stocked with fresh foods and beverages, giving travelers round-the-clock access at busy Albuquerque airport.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Travelers who visit the Albuerque, NM, airport can now purchase a wide range of products 24x7 through ShelfX's unattended smart fridges.

Users just swipe their credit card to unlock the door of the fridge, take what they want and close the door. They are automatically charged for only the items they took.  ShelfX's technology uses weight-sensing shelves to know what consumers remove from the fridge.

"We chose ShelfX technology which keeps products secure against tempering and theft, and allows quick, no lines purchasing of a wide range of products from fresh sandwiches and salads to earphones and chargers," said Aaron Flure, purchasing manager at the Fresquez Co. who is responsible for implementing the new solution at the airport.

"We partnered with True to build a high-quality fridge and with USA Technologies to handle the payments," explained ShelfX chief executive Ran Margalit. "The fridges meet U.S. health and safety regulations in order and ensure that consumers cannot purchase perished food."

ShelfX says it has about 1,000 systems deployed in 18 countries, including deployed at hospitals, universities, train stations and workplaces serviced by Sodexo.
