MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The organizers of the upcoming Atlantic Coast Exposition report that they have engaged Denise Ryan as keynote speaker for the awards breakfast at the annual convention and exhibit. The event is set for the Embassy Suites Hotel at Kingston Plantation here from Oct. 20 through 22 (Thursday through Saturday). The breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Ryan, who graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina and holds a master's degree in business administration, is a popular speaker whose interactive programs address critical topics such as dealing with change, successful selling and staying motivated.

ACE also has announced a policy change regarding brokers' exhibits. Brokers now may reserve an unlimited number of booth spaces, with no more than two of their manufacturer principals per booth. The change reflects the organizers' recognition of the importance of broker participation to the event's value and success.

With three months to go until show time, 70% of exhibit space already has been reserved, the show's organizers report. | SEE STORY

As the 2011 ACE takes final form, planners have booked the Catalinas, an iconic regional "beach band" that dates back to 1957, to play at the convention's finale event on Saturday evening. Originally formed in Charlotte, NC, the band has attracted more than 60 accomplished guitarists, keyboardists, trumpet and bass players, drummers and vocalists. It is now owned by singer-guitarist Gary Barker, who started with the Catalinas in 1965.

Complete information on the 2011 Atlantic Coast Exposition is available online at An exhibitor kit, order forms for electrical, hardwired Internet connections and audiovisual equipment may be found there. Online operator registration also is open; an early bird discount is offered to those registering before Aug. 19. The deadline for exhibit space reservations is Sept. 30.

Originally organized by the North Carolina Vending Association and South Carolina Automatic Merchandising Association (now the South Carolina Vending Association) in 1957, the event became the Carolinas-Virginia Vending Convention with the addition of the Automatic Vending Association of Virginia (now Virginia Automatic Merchandising Association). It has been held in Myrtle Beach since 1970, and was renamed the Atlantic Coast Exposition to reflect its wider representation and growing reach. ACE attracts visitors from all over the United States, Canada and overseas.
