7-Eleven Expansion Might Reflect C-Store Health, Opportunities For Bulk Vendors

DALLAS -- If 7-Eleven is any indicator, the convenience store industry seems to be very healthy indeed. According to recent company statements, 7-Eleven added more than 4,600 stores worldwide in 2011 and plans to continue on its aggressive expansion course.

7-Eleven's goal is to add a minimum 630 stores in the U.S. and Canada by the year's end. At present, the company has more than 46,000 stores worldwide.

"In the world of real estate and development, it has been a buyer's market, and we have been in the enviable position to capitalize on property and space availability plus 7-Eleven's strong credit rating," said Dan Porter, vice-president of 7-Eleven real estate.

For bulk vending operators, this may be welcomed news. The proliferation of c-stores like 7-Eleven means more potential locations. Over the past several years, large and regional c-store chains have shown an increased openness to traditional bulk vending complemented by ancillary vending equipment like skill cranes and prize merchandisers.
