CHICAGO -- Kraft Heinz has named David Knopf, 29, chief financial officer, making him the youngest to lead one of the United States' largest companies. He succeeds Paulo Basilio, 42, who will become president of Kraft Heinz's U.S. business.

Knopf joined Kraft Heinz in 2015 as vice-president of finance. Most recently, he was vice-president of Planters.

Knopf previously worked at Goldman Sachs after graduating from Princeton in 2010. He joined private-equity firm 3G Capital as a partner in 2013 where he worked on several large acquisitions, including Burger King and Heinz. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital own about half of Kraft Heinz.

Kraft Heinz also announced that George Zoghbi, chief operating officer of U.S. business, will transition to a strategic advisor role.
