LINCOLN, NE -- Yet another small child has been found inside a skill crane. This time the incident occurred in Lincoln, NE, where local news media say a 24-year-old woman called police from her apartment on April 14 to report the disappearance of her three-year-old son. Nearly simultaneously, another call reported a young child romping in a skill crane amid plush toys across the street at Madsen's Bowling & Billiards. Police quickly put the two incidents together and reunited mother and child.
The number of young children found in skill cranes has risen sharply over the years. The frequency of the reports has turned the occurrence into something of an Internet meme, generating hundreds of images of trapped toddlers online, at least one television ad depicting an adult encased in a skill crane and more than one "mommy blogger" calling for increased safety regulations for claw machines.
