OWENSBORO, KY -- A Canteen franchise group with headquarters here has announced the acquisition of the full-line vending business of Williams Food Service (Louisville, KY). Established more than 80 years ago, Williams was a full-line vending and industrial catering pioneer.
The acquiring organization is led by Jack T. Wells. It purchased Canteen Service Co. of Owensboro earlier this year and launched Canteen of Kentuckiana in April. Three longtime regional Canteen veterans are part of the Wells ownership group. Gary Schroader serves as president, Keith Sharber is vice-president and Keith Survant is operations manager.
Wells noted that his organization has inherited "an outstanding base of customer locations and a great staff of former Williams Food Service employees." The group now employs some 320 people.
"As is the case with Owensboro, there is lots of exciting growth and synergy going on in the Louisville region today," Wells observed, "and we're delighted to join in the action."
The organization provides full-line food and beverage vending to business and industrial, education, leisure and corrections accounts, and both the Owensboro and Louisville operations also provide office refreshment and dining services within their respective franchise territories. William Food Service's mobile catering operation was not included in the transaction.
Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, Canteen is one of the world's largest vending companies. It has more than 130 Canteen franchise operations in the United States, and the Owensboro/Louisville group is one of the five largest.
