ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- It isn’t the kind of tie-in that most candymakers would dare undertake, but a local confectionery store in Albuquerque, NM, is selling "meth" candy. Inspired by AMC's critically acclaimed "Breaking Bad" TV series, Debbie Hall, The Candy Lady, is selling candy that looks like the methamphetamine produced by the show's teacher turned drug kingpin.
According to local press reports, Hall supplied the prop for the drug, known as Blue Sky, to the show when it first began filming. The secret formula is rock candy with blue dye. The Candy Lady was encouraged to begin marketing her blue confection to the general public after "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston appeared on the David Letterman show brandishing a small bag of the stuff.
"Breaking Bad," which is filmed in the Albuquerque area, is a local favorite. In press interviews, Hall noted that she isn't alone in cashing in on the show's popularity. Donuts topped with blue sprinkles are popular at a local donut shop.
