FRANKLYN SQUARE, NY -- Central Distributing Co., which specializes in the sale and service of amusement equipment, is being sold. Industry veteran Anthony Russo and son Nicholas are acquiring the Long Island distributorship from owner Ralph Scherillo. The new owners are expected to take over by Sept. 30.
Central Distributing Co. was established in 1987 when Scherillo sold the last routes of his operating company, Central Amusements. That company had run games, jukeboxes and cigarette venders in all five New York City boroughs, as well as in Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties. As an operator, Scherillo also provided repair services for other operators in the region, beginning with mechanical pinballs and vinyl-playing jukeboxes. Service for videogames, monitors and bill validators, along with equipment and parts sales, soon followed.
Today, Central services a wide array of bill validators, along with other electronic components for videogames and cranes. The company also sells parts and supplies, and a selection of new and used games and jukeboxes.
Scherillo is a former Navy SEAL who learned electronics as an underwater demolition expert during the Vietnam War. He will stay on with the new owners as an advisor.
Central Distributing's sales and service center is based at 1153 Hempstead Turnpike, Franklin Square, NY 11010. The company can be reached by calling (516) 488-7256.
